About 5 years ago I bought one of these gorgeous little cars for my own son and have just purchased another for my Godson. The one I bought my son had the padded effect seat as shown in the picture here but the one I bought my Godson did not - just plain green metal - a little disappointing. The old version also had spoked wheels which looked better but I can understand why they changed them to solid wheels as they may be safer for little fingers (and cheaper to produce). Another very small gripe about the new one is that the gear lever would not fit onto the steering wheel shaft - despite the extra washers to make fitting easier. You won't understand this until you try and do it yourself. It is a very, very minor thing and shouldn't put you off buying - just be prepared for it and then you won't be disappointed. On the plus side they have made the pedals easier for children to use in the new version - we had to remove them from our old one as they were virtually impossible to use. The plus side of taking the pedal system out is that older children can use it by using their feet and the ground to propel themselves, so actually the toy lasts as long as they can fit in it!
All in all, it is still a wonderful gift for a little one and I haven't met a child (or adult for that matter) who was not seriously drawn to it. Over the years they have made it a little safer (wheels) and easier to use (pedals), but the quality has diminished slightly. I would have expected that if they are going to economise, the price should be just a little bit lower to reflect this.

This classic pedal car is made of metal, and is available in red and green. It weighs about 20 kilograms, and you can adjust its pedal drive to three different sizes, so that your children can use it from the age of 1,5 years till 5. The seat is made of plastic that looks like real leather. When my nephew and my niece saw it, it was love at first sight, for it looks like a car of our "Mille Miglia," a famous historic car race which takes place here in Brescia every year. Absolutely recommended!
